On May 19,2020 at the coronavirus pandemic time, a new eCommerce service was announced by Facebook. The company says it aims to help SMBs who are affected by the lockdown caused by Covid-19 pandemic to start their online stores which will utilize social media and work across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Store Owners & entrepreneurs will be able to create their own online storefronts of goods on Facebook and Instagram - with photos of goods, their descriptions, prices and the ability to place an order. The social media users will be able to brows the online storefronts, save their favorite goods or order delivery. They can pay for the order either directly through the social network or on a third-party eCommerce site Shopify, Woo-commerce and Odoo website.
Also, from the store’s page, users will be able to go to chat rooms in Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp and ask sellers questions that interest them.
What are Facebook Shops?
It a storefront tool (think Etsy, ebay, Amazon), where any company can set up a single online storefront with its products, which will be available both on Facebook and Instagram.
And it is FREE! Facebook will not charge for listing the products nor it will charge for the transactions (like Etsy, Amazon...etc)
How to enable it?
To create such a store, the business will need to add their products manually or uploading, then customize the appearance of the online store such as colors and cover photos.
Users will be able to see such stores on the business pages of companies, either in stories or in advertising. In the store itself, they will be able to view products, save selected items and then place an order (the order will be formed on the company’s website if it doesn’t have a Facebook checkout configured for the USA).
